About GTA (Greater Toronto Area)

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) refers to the metropolitan region surrounding Toronto, in the province of Ontario, Canada. It includes Toronto as the core city, plus four surrounding regional municipalities:

Durham Region – east of Toronto (includes Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa)

York Region – north of Toronto (includes Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill)

Peel Region – west of Toronto (includes Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon)

Halton Region – further west (includes Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills)

This entire area is a major economic, cultural, and population hub—Canada’s largest urban region, home to over 6 million people.

In real estate terms, the GTA is a heavyweight. It's a diverse, fast-paced market with everything from downtown condos and luxury estates to suburban family homes and rural properties. Think of it as the "Greater" in "Greater Toronto" because the city’s influence—and its real estate reach—extends far beyond its borders.
